Enterprise social software market data

In late July, Gartner analysts Tom Eid and Nikos Drakos published a report entitled "The Emerging Enterprise Social Software Marketplace" that provides some of the first hard numbers on the size and growth of the enterprise social software market. According to Gartner, the social software market will grow from $226 million in 2007 to more than $707 million by 2011. This represents an explosive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 41%!

This Gartner data is some of the first quantitative research I've seen on the size and growth of the social software market. It's exciting to see this area of technology quickly becoming a nearly billion dollar market opportunity. This clearly gives vendors like Socialtext huge opportunities for growth, but more importantly validates that businesses around the world are investing heavily in Web 2.0 technologies, like wikis and blogs.
