PALO ALTO, Calif. — Socialtext, a leading provider of enterprise wiki and social software solutions, today announced that Julie Hanna Farris has been named as the newest member of the Board of Directors (BOD). Joining the Socialtext BOD, Farris brings a successful track record of guiding early to mid-stage companies from obscurity to market leadership. Farris is the founder and former CEO of Scalix, a pioneer in open source mail and collaboration software with over 700 enterprise customers in 55 countries, where she raised $20M in venture capital. Farris will work with CEO, Eugene Lee and Chairman, President & Co founder, Ross Mayfield and the rest of the Socialtext Board of Directors to target the next stage of growth for Socialtext.

Prior to founding Scalix, Farris was an entrepreneur-in-residence at venture capital firm, Mayfield, and a founding executive of several start-ups, including onebox.com, creator of the first consumer Internet unified messaging service that was acquired by OpenWave for $850M in 2000. Previously, Farris was at Portola Communications, where she was instrumental in the acquisition by Netscape, now Sun JavaMail. Farris has also held strategic technology and marketing roles at IBM/Lotus where she helped steer the product direction and market positioning of Lotus Notes/Domino and cc:Mail. Today, Farris advises entrepreneurs and CEO’s of Web 2.0 consumer Internet and enterprise software companies on a range of topics including venture financing, product and go-to-market strategy, and open source business models. Farris holds a B.S. in Computer Science from University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she was recently named 2008 Alumni of the Year.
