Socialtext Announces Deeper Integration with SharePoint

Socialtext Connect incorporates SharePoint events in the social layer of the enterprise architecture.

June 30, 2010, Palo Alto, California

Socialtext announced today a major upgrade to SocialPoint, the connector that enables customers to integrate its enterprise social software platform with Microsoft SharePoint. Building on the recent release of Socialtext Connect, SocialPoint now allows information about events that happen in SharePoint to flow into the Socialtext activity stream. SocialPoint also adds rich metadata to the SharePoint-related messages.

"Increasingly, our customers are using Socialtext as a social layer in their enterprise architecture," says Eugene Lee, Socialtext's CEO. "They surface critical events from enterprise applications and inject them into our social software platform, where employees across an organization are collaborating."

SocialPoint was the first integration between an enterprise social software platform and SharePoint. SocialPoint enables people to communicate via microblogging, collaborate with wikis, as well as search for employee profiles in the Socialtext platform -- all from within SharePoint.

Now, as part of Socialtext's new social integration capability, Socialtext Connect, SocialPoint allows customers to publish events from SharePoint to the Socialtext activity stream automatically, including the following:

  • Create, update or delete a file in SharePoint
  • Check a document in and out of SharePoint
  • Updates to a document library

With Signals Annotations, events generated from SharePoint will be accompanied by rich metadata, which includes file or library names, links, creation dates, and file owner. This metadata adds context to the activity, and makes it discoverable and searchable later.

SocialPoint is immediately available to Socialtext customers, who should contact their Socialtext account manager to take advantage of this integration capability. New customers should contact sales@socialtext.com.
