A lot of our attention at work is distracted by the multiple streams of updates we get – on topics that are directly relevant to us and not – including all the emails that are ‘cc,’ ‘reply all,’ ‘fyi,’ ‘latest version,’ ‘please use this version,’ and basically ‘cya.’ All this communication is aimed at trying to get the right information to the right people so they know the latest changes, the current status, and what most needs their attention. But this is sadly not the outcome. People are overloaded with email, topics get fragmented across various communication streams, you can't manage your attention, and what you need to know is not at your fingertips.
Get a “bird’s eye view” of what matters
Socialtext Dashboard is customizable - you decide what you want to watch and monitor, and you aggregate it all in one place. Every user gets their own personal dashboard and can configure it:
- With links to resources, pages, people
- To show recent updates made to particular types of pages or conversations
- To show recent updates by specified people
- To display information from various systems including Socialtext Workspace pages, Socialtext People, enterprise systems and 3rd party sources
Personalize your dashboard in minutes
It takes a matter of minutes to create your dashboard, using drag-and-drop standards-based widgets. Since you can change your dashboard in a few clicks, you can change what you pay attention to at any time.
Socialtext pre-built widgets include:
- My Conversations – changes others have made to any Socialtext workspace page that you authored, edited, or commented on
- My Colleagues – recent updates made by people you are subscribed to
- Signals – monitor and post Signals, Socialtext’s 140-character social messages
- Workspaces – workspaces you have access to and their activity metrics
- Wiki Page – any page from any of your Socialtext workspaces
- RSS Viewer - results of an RSS feed you configure
- Workspace Tags – a tag cloud of all tags on pages in a particular workspace
- All People Tags – a tag cloud of all tags on people in Socialtext People
- Image – displays an image
The activity feeds for your conversations, colleagues and Signals are also available in Socialtext Desktop.
Include 3rd party information and applications
Since Socialtext supports the Google OpenSocial standard, any widget that is written to the standard can be added to your Socialtext Dashboard. Over 100,000 widgets support the Google OpenSocial standard, including widgets to access and display information from Outlook, Google Calendar, Twitter, MapQuest, Wikipedia, Del.icio.us, Flickr and more. Additional widgets are being delivered all the time.
Track & attend to what’s most important to you
The power of Socialtext Dashboard is in its ability to keep you up-to-date on everything that matters to you. You can get updates on the most recent changes made by people you are following, or made to pages you have shown an interest in. You can configure a widget to show the contents of another page, such as a page that shows a schedule that is kept up-to-date by others. You can subscribe to recent changes made to all pages with certain tags, which lets you monitor topics or set up workflows (for example, a workflow could use the tag ‘ready for review’). You can monitor new information coming in from external social networks, and external news and information feeds.
If you see something that needs your attention in any of these information streams, you can simply click to read or join the conversation.
Status updates flow automatically, as you work
Since work is now done openly and transparently, you and your colleagues no longer need to stop work to update each other on status. Status updates now flow automatically as you do the work.
