As the popularity of microblogging has increased, IT managers have struggled with its risks. Employees often begin using either consumer tools on the public web, or private hosted tools that don’t let IT control membership, content or company policy.

Socialtext Microblogging Appliance provides security and control in a cost-contained package. It gives IT the option of deploying secure microblogging and social networking company-wide, right away. It provides:
- Rapid, secure and scalable deployment, with either an on-site appliance, installed on your premises behind your firewall, or a hosted appliance installed in our data center.
- Optional integration with your directory services (LDAP/Active Directory), which populates Socialtext’s rich user profiles, makes your corporate directory social, and provides single sign-on with your other intranet applications.
- Extensibility, using REST APIs. The activity streams that appear on profile pages in the microblogging appliance can easily be integrated with third-party applications, providing a unified activity stream or making other applications social.
- A rapid stream of enhancements with monthly software updates. Hosted appliances get updated automatically; on-site appliances have a single-step upgrade process, for all the benefits of SaaS and on site deployment combined.
- Profiles in Socialtext Microblogging Appliance show not only the standard corporate data such as reporting structure and contact information, but also give a rich picture of the person, showing their photo, the people they are following, their profile pages on external social networks, tags that describe them, their recent Signals (short microblogging messages), and more.
Users can access Socialtext from a browser, and they can also use the free Socialtext Desktop application. Socialtext Desktop is a dynamic application built on Adobe AIR technology, a rich internet application that works across all desktop platforms: Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
IT managers have the option of upgrading the microblogging appliance to the full Socialtext collaboration platform at any time in the future. In a matter of minutes you can turn on unlimited workspaces for granular privacy control; distributed spreadsheets; and a personal home page for each user.

Enterprise microblogging makes it easy for you to share information and participate in conversations with your colleagues. Microblogging is an open, or transparent form of communicating, meaning everyone can benefit from and contribute to the discussion. Some common uses of microblogging include:
- Status Updates: Keep everyone informed about what projects are being worked on
- Questions and Answers: Leverage the knowledge of everyone to get rapid responses
- Information Sharing: Broadcast links to important news, websites, or other sources of valuable information
Microblogging
Users share short (140 character) messages with links, updates and context, and to get fast input and ideas.
Rich User Profiles
Profiles give a rich picture of the person, with their photo, the people they are following, tags, their profile pages on external social networks and more.
Activity Streams
Activity streams show a person’s recent contributions and Signals (140-character microblogging messages) in Socialtext.
Easy Access to your Social Network
It is simple to find the people you follow with this drop-down list. You can also search the directory by name or by tags.
Directory
The directory lists all the members in your company or community. From this view you can see their contact information without opening their profile page. The search bar makes it easy to find people in the directory.
Why Microblogging?
Product Demo, 1 minute
Email and chat are closed forms of communication. Microblogging is open, allowing more people to participate, meaning more people benefit.
