Socialtext Appliance

A purpose-built appliance optimized for enterprise microblogging, social networking and collaboration, the Socialtext appliance can be up and running in days, and returning measurable business results in weeks. The appliance components were selected, optimized and tuned for reliability and performance.

We offer two deployment options with the appliance: a managed service appliance, installed on your premises behind your firewall, or a hosted appliance installed in our data center.

On-Site Managed Service Appliance

The Socialtext managed service appliance is deployed securely behind your firewall. It can run the enterprise microblogging package, Socialtext Signals, or the full social software platform.

The appliance comes with all software components pre-installed and ready to run, on a pre-hardened OS to ensure maximum security. It is easy to deploy, requires minimal maintenance, and includes technical and business administration utilities to manage backup, restore, upgrades, users, usage reporting and other administrative tasks. The standard backup feature allows the appliance administrator to back up the appliance to a shared network drive at a configurable time interval. Socialtext provides support engineering services to assist with deployment.

The managed service appliance includes monthly upgrades. Your appliance administrator will be notified when a new upgrade is available, and can choose the best time to apply the upgrades with a simple, one-step process. Upgrades are downloaded via an encrypted internet connection from our secure distribution server. If any data changes are needed, they occur automatically. Upgrades and migrations are rigorously tested to ensure seamless operation.

The standard appliance is a rack-mountable Dell server with a multi-core CPU, 4G of memory, and 146 GB of redundant storage. It comes standard with two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a DRAC (Dell Remote Access Card) for remote administration. If more than 146 GB of space is required, drives up to 2T are available.

Hosted Appliance

While the managed service appliance takes minimal effort to deploy and manage, the hosted appliance takes this down to zero.

Your hosted appliance is located in a carrier-class data center on a high-bandwidth, low-latency network link. We guarantee 99.9% uptime and availability. The Socialtext application on every hosted appliance is continuously monitored from multiple stations in North America, Europe and Asia.

The monitoring stations connect to the Socialtext application every 5 minutes, verifying wide-area network access, server availability, and application availability for your users. In the event of a problem, our system administrators are immediately alerted.

Also Available

Socialtext Hosted Service

All Socialtext application modules are available as Software as a Service, eliminating any IT burden for software maintenance, ongoing operation, and support. Using our hosted service, you get the same full set of user and administrative features offered with our on-premise appliance.
