The Socialtext platform is built upon a modular and extensible Web-oriented architecture. Leveraging industry standards, Socialtext can rapidly be customized and integrated into your enterprise applications and infrastructure.

OpenSocial industry standard support

Want to extend your Socialtext experience? Socialtext enables your organization to take advantage of over 100,000 widgets developed using the popular Google OpenSocial Gadget standard. It's easy to write new widgets that leverage your organization's applications and content.

Rich REST API

The Socialtext REST API facilitates integration with systems of record and the creation of mashups with other data and social tools. Using ubiquitous web tools you can post and retrieve Socialtext Workspace content and metadata, and Socialtext People profile and relationship data. You can also search Socialtext content. You can update and retrieve events for social Update Feeds. The REST API supports JSON, HTML and text formats. Socialtext provides .NET wrappers for the REST API, providing a Microsoft-friendly toolkit.

Modular integrated architecture with plugin extensibility

Socialtext's social software applications are not a "swiss army knife" collection of unrelated tools. Our applications are tightly integrated leveraging common services such as linking, tagging, revision history, alerts, and people. This provides an integrated user experience, and maximized knowledge discovery and re-use. Plugins can be added that extend the core data types and leverage the basic services of the platform.

Directory integration

Socialtext provides pluggable solutions to integrate with existing directory management systems (e.g. Active Directory, LDAP). Directory services integration leverages your existing directory infrastructure and provides a means of centralizing user authentication, giving your IT team a central point of control and allowing users to utilize the same username/password credentials that they already use elsewhere on your network.

Connectors for other enterprise systems

Socialtext has developed connectors for other enterprise systems. Socialtext People integration with LDAP or Microsoft Active Directory systems enables rapid population of profiles. Socialtext also integrates with Microsoft SharePoint and IBM Lotus Connections.
